I think it’s safe to say that anyone from the south growing up remembers a certain dish that a family member makes that is extra special. Whether it be grandma’s homemade buttermilk pancakes, mom’s flaky biscuits made from scratch, or dad’s famous pot of chili, it seems that no one can make it quite like they can. Take a moment to think of what that dish was (or maybe still is) for you. I bet that you can remember the smell of that certain food, the savory taste, and that warm feeling of home that you get whenever it gets made. That feeling is what makes food so special. It’s a feeling that is hard to find in a restaurant because it’s a feeling that is created with love and care when a plate is made. Tucked away in the heart of the Smokies, you can find a restaurant that offers that same cozy feeling. Imagine a farmhouse full of dozens of chickens, but these chickens aren’t just any regular chickens. These chickens sing and put on a show for you while you enjoy your food. These chickens also have special names like “Hens Solo” and “Princess Layer!” At Frizzle Chicken Farmhouse Cafe in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee you can find just that. Our visit to this unique, family fun restaurant was every bit of satisfying. Our table was complete with a breakfast feast to tickle any tastebud! Our spread consisted of funfetti pancakes that were made for anyone with a sweet tooth. As the melted butter settled between the tower of batter and sprinkles, I couldn’t help but admire the pretty colors awaiting me on my plate. As I took my first bite, the light and airy taste danced on my tongue. As I took another bite, the sweet and savory taste of sprinkles and whipped cream filled my tastebuds with delight! The fun didn’t stop with just the funfetti pancakes! My better half had the chicken and waffles which was a classic spin on the traditional plate. The crispy Belgian waffles were homemade in house with a giant piece of breaded chicken breast sprinkled with powdered sugar and maple syrup (think of how mom made them, but better!) Sure, I know what you’re thinking, “Geeze, talk about a sugar coma!” (Hey, when in Rome. Am I right?) To balance out the sugar surplus was a dish that every southerner knows and loves, biscuits and gravy! This order of biscuits and gravy was different though. Instead of just one traditional style bowl of gravy, we were given a plate full of buttery, flaky, made from scratch biscuits complete with not one, but three different types of homemade gravy to try! We may have needed a nap after that breakfast feast, but the singing chickens, savory food, and delightful service made us feel right at home! If you’re ever in the area, check out the Frizzle Chicken Farmhouse Cafe for a breakfast spot that’s sure to make you leave with a full stomach and a smile on your face!
